Using Punctuation Can Damage Your Reputation
Do you use punctuation to try and get your emails past SPAM filters? This seems to be very popular among legitimate email marketers–and it will damage your reputation as a law-abiding net citizen. Below are some examples of what I mean:
fr.ee
f^ree
Pro*fit
Sa|e
First of all, I teach every marketer that the road to effective email marketing is paved with honesty, integrity, and a strong desire to reach the masses by doing things the right way! This practice cannot be compromised.
By using punctuation to break up trigger words, you are lowering yourself to the same level as the spammers–the very people that you are trying to separate yourself from.
Bottom Line: Don’t do it!
Anti-SPAM software is wise to these tactics anyway. If you use these practices, you do yourself more harm than good. Using high trigger words is ok if you use them very rarely in your emails.
All legitimate email marketers must rise to the occasion and market the right way if we are ever going to win the war on SPAM!
